Dublin City Council is to introduce a ban on eleven breeds of properties, including houses, apartments and properties, with immediate effect.
The breeds are: English Bull Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, American Pit Bull Terrier, Rottweiler, German Shepherd (Alsatian), Doberman, Rhodesian Ridgeback, Japanese Akita, Bull Mastiff, Japanese Tosa, and Bulldog. Crosses of these dogs or crosses of these dogs with any other breed are also banned.
The owners can house dogs but if alternative accommodation can be found, because they are destroyed.
The Council took the decision to all "dangerous breeds" due to the increasing number of complaints from tenants and the legal consequences to an attack occurs, remove one of its associated buildings.
The ban initially applies to the Housing Board and all public spaces in social housing.
